Professional development opportunities!
TCT is delighted to announce two wonderful professional development workshops in August 2018! These have been made possible through the generous support of Hobart City Council and the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board (TAAB) Chairman’s Scholarship.
'Enriching Your Natural Voice' with Rob Maxwell Hobart - Saturday, 18 August, 10am-1pm
Rob Maxwell is a Tasmanian actor and voice teacher and recent NIDA graduate (Master of Voice) who used his TAAB Chairman’s Scholarship to do further study in America under dialect coach Beth McGuire. Rob will take participants through a series of explorations that will cover breathing, phonation, resonance, articulation, and text. This workshop is open to anyone wanting to enrich and free their natural speaking voice, whether it be as an actor, a teacher, a director, a public speaker, or a parent. Participants will come away with a greater awareness of their vocal use, tools to deal with pre-performance anxiety, and a simple yet effective daily voice warm-up. He will also be touching on dialect acquisition for those actors seeking to expand their repertoire of accents.
'Sculpt a World with Words' with Alison Mann Moonah - Sunday, 26 August, 10.30am-1.30pm
Alison is a Tasmanian playwright and performance maker. Her work is influenced by a range of art forms from David Cronenberg films to fairy tales. Her work includes She’s Not Performing (Tasmanian Theatre Company) and The Surgeon’s Hands (Blue Cow Theatre) with her most recent work, The Illustrated Girl, performed as part of Radio Gothic at DARK MOFO last year. Alison's workshop will investigate character and world creation through practical exercises with participants able to work on a current project or begin work on something new. Alison will give an overview of her practice as a playwright and share the professional development she gained through the TAAB Chairman’s Scholarship to explore blending physical theatre and text-based storytelling.
- Each workshop costs: $20 per person (TCT Individual Members) OR $25 per person (Non-TCT members)
- Registrations close: 48 hours before each workshop (late entries may incur a fee) so if you're interested, act now!
